Incremental rotary encoders are used in virtually all branches of industry for the acquisition of measured data for rotary movements. The electromechanical device in the optical rotary encoder is designed to register changes in relation to a reference position and detects angle, distance travelled, speed, acceleration or direction of rotation by counting pulses with the aid of an opto-electronic scanning unit. An integrated shaft transmits the torques and serves as the bearing for the rotating elements.
