
Un codeur absolu est conçu pour produire les informations de position absolue ; il comporte un schéma de code unique ; de ce fait, il peut fournir un code numérique unique pour chaque position angulaire de l'axe. Sa caractéristique principale est qu'il est toujours possible de connaître la position exacte de l'axe.
Les codeurs absolus sont disponibles dans des circuits de sortie parallèles ou classiques (SSI, BISS, etc.), mais sont également disponibles avec les bus de terrain Profibus, Profinet, DeviceNET, EtherCAT, CANopen, Modbus ou Powerlink. Les codeurs absolus peuvent être monotour ou multitours.
